Violence in Honduras results in at least 25 deaths
On Thursday, authorities in Honduras reported at least 25 deaths following separate violent attacks attributed to criminal organizations. The primary incident occurred between Wednesday night and Thursday morning in Rigores, near the coastal city of Trujillo, where at least 19 farm workers were killed. According to Yuri Mora, a spokesperson for the public prosecutor's office, victims were found in two locations, with 13 and six bodies identified respectively. While local agricultural union representatives describe the victims as members of a farming movement, security minister Jerson Velasquez suggested the individuals were linked to an armed group. Reports indicate the perpetrators utilized large-caliber firearms and shotguns. Simultaneously, separate reports noted that four to five police officers were killed in a distinct incident during the same period. This wave of violence follows the government's approval of new legislative reforms aimed at addressing rising criminal activity in the region.
