Administrative court blocks construction of Latsia-Geri solar park
On May 19, 2026, an Administrative Court issued a permanent injunction suspending the construction of a 3.7MW solar farm in the Latsia-Geri municipality. The legal challenge was initiated by the municipality and four local residents against the Nicosia District Local Government Organisation (DLGO), which had issued the building permit in 2024. The site is located west of the highway, behind the Latsia weighing station. Judge Lakis Christodoulou cited potential irreversible environmental damage, including harm to local flora and fauna and proximity to residential zones. Technical evidence noted risks from ground compaction, construction within watercourse protection zones, and vegetation clearing. The municipality had previously expressed formal opposition to such developments since September 2021. The injunction will remain in effect until the court reaches a final decision on the legality of the permit. The municipality has pledged to continue taking legal measures to protect residents' rights and the environment.
