Eurostat report on ICT education and gender distribution in the workforce for 2025

According to Eurostat data released on Friday, the European Union employed 3.4 million people with ICT-related education in 2025, marking a 5.1% increase from 3.2 million in 2024. Men continue to dominate this sector, accounting for 83.4% (2.8 million) of the total workforce, while women represent 16.6%. In Cyprus, the gender gap is particularly pronounced, with men making up 85.1% and women 14.9% of the ICT-educated workforce in 2025, a shift from 2024 figures of 70.9% and 29.1% respectively. Cyprus ranks among the top EU countries for tertiary education attainment in the ICT field, with 96.4% of its ICT-educated workers holding a tertiary degree in 2025. Across the EU, 74.8% of ICT-educated workers hold tertiary qualifications. While the absolute number of women in the sector grew from 0.4 million in 2015 to 0.6 million in 2025, their proportional share remains stagnant. Countries like the Czech Republic, Slovenia, and Latvia reported the highest male dominance, whereas Denmark, Sweden, and Romania recorded the highest percentages of women in the sector.
