Annual inflation and fuel prices rise across the EU in April 2026
According to Eurostat data released in May 2026, annual inflation in the Eurozone reached 3.0% in April, up from 2.6% in March, driven primarily by rising energy and service costs. Across the European Union, the inflation rate rose to 3.2% from 2.8% the previous month. In Cyprus, annual inflation accelerated to 3.0% in April from 1.5% in March, while monthly consumer prices increased by 2.2%. Fuel prices across the EU also saw a significant reversal, rising by 20.8% annually in April compared to the same period in 2025. Diesel prices in the EU surged by 33.7% year-on-year, while petrol prices rose by 13.6%. Cyprus specifically recorded an 18% monthly increase in diesel prices between March and April 2026, placing it among the member states with the highest surges. While fuel prices had been declining until February 2026, all EU countries experienced increases in April. Domestic data in Cyprus shows that as of May 22, 2026, average prices for 95-octane petrol stood at €1.585 per liter, with diesel averaging €1.807 per liter.
