Gas explosion at coal mine in Shanxi province

A gas explosion occurred at the Liushengyu coal mine in China's Shanxi province on Friday evening, trapping dozens of workers. Out of the 247 workers present at the site, 201 have been evacuated, though eight have been confirmed dead. Rescue operations are currently ongoing to reach the 38 individuals remaining underground. Reports indicate that carbon monoxide levels in the mine exceeded safe limits, and 16 of the trapped workers are in critical condition. President Xi Jinping has ordered a comprehensive rescue effort and a thorough investigation into the cause of the disaster. The government has emphasized the need for increased workplace safety vigilance to prevent future industrial accidents. The incident took place approximately 500 kilometers southwest of Beijing.
