Election campaign silence begins as illegal materials are removed

As of midnight, the pre-election campaign in Cyprus concluded, initiating a mandatory period of silence ahead of the parliamentary elections. Assistant Chief Electoral Officer Menelaos Vasiliou confirmed that crews have been deployed across all districts to remove prohibited election posters and banners. Candidates and parties responsible for the remaining materials will be charged for the removal costs. The Electoral Office is currently evaluating whether these violations warrant further legal penalties. Tomorrow, 570,000 eligible voters are expected to cast their ballots for 56 parliamentary seats, with 752 candidates participating. Polls are scheduled to open at 07:00 and close at 18:00, with a one-hour break from 12:00 to 13:00. Initial results are expected approximately 30 minutes after polls close, while final seat distributions are anticipated by 21:30. The names of the successful candidates are expected to be known by 01:30.
