Suspect wounded by police in Mikrolimano during security operation
In the early morning, an armed confrontation occurred at Akti Dilaveri in Mikrolimano, Piraeus, involving officers from the Organized Crime Division. A 42-year-old Albanian national, identified by some reports as an individual known as 'Titi', was approached by a team of eight police officers for a routine check. The suspect reportedly drew a weapon against the officers, prompting one policeman to fire his service weapon, resulting in a serious injury to the suspect. Following the shooting, authorities discovered three firearms and a bag containing six hand grenades at the scene, requiring the intervention of the bomb disposal unit. The suspect was transported to Attikon Hospital where he underwent surgery to remove a bullet from his head and is currently being treated in the ICU under police guard. Officials state the man has a significant criminal record, including a 2019 escape from the Petrou Ralli detention facility where he held a female officer hostage. He has previously used multiple aliases and holds convictions for homicide, narcotics, and theft. The Greek Police are conducting an ongoing investigation into his background and potential ties to organized crime networks.
