Bruno Fernandes named Premier League player of the season

Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes has been officially named the 2025-26 Premier League player of the season. The 31-year-old Portuguese international recorded 20 assists during the campaign, equalling the all-time league record held by Thierry Henry and Kevin De Bruyne. In addition to his playmaking, he scored eight goals and created a league-high 132 chances for his team. His performance helped Manchester United secure a third-place finish and return to the Champions League. Fernandes is the first United player to receive this award since Wayne Rooney in the 2009-10 season. He also holds the club's Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year award and was recently named the Football Writers’ Association men’s player of the year. During the selection process, he surpassed competitors including David Raya, Gabriel, Declan Rice, Erling Haaland, Antoine Semenyo, Morgan Gibbs-White, and Igor Thiago.
