Electoral commissioner issues restrictions for ballot counting and pre-election period

The Chief Returning Officer of Cyprus has issued strict guidelines regarding the ballot counting process. During the counting, candidate representatives are prohibited from possessing or using ballots, recording materials, stationery, or mobile phones. Representatives are classified solely as observers, with the entire counting process handled exclusively by authorized election center staff. The presiding officer has the authority to remove any representative who violates these regulations without prior notice. Furthermore, the Chief Returning Officer reminded the public that all election-related advertising, including paid or unpaid news, social media posts, and online ads, is now prohibited. Public gatherings, speeches, and public debates are also banned. Additionally, the publication of opinion poll results is strictly forbidden during this period. Only official announcements authorized by the Chief Returning Officer are permitted.
