British national arrested at Larnaca airport for tobacco smuggling
On May 22, customs officials at Larnaca Airport in Cyprus intercepted a British passenger traveling to the United Kingdom. During a baggage inspection based on intelligence, authorities discovered a large quantity of illicit cigarettes. The seizure included 85 cartons of 200 cigarettes each and 8 individual packs of 20 cigarettes. The items lacked mandatory health warnings in Greek and Turkish, as well as the required security and traceability codes, indicating they were duty-unpaid. The passenger was arrested on the spot for smuggling offenses. On Saturday, the Larnaca District Court ordered the man to be remanded in custody for three days to assist with the ongoing investigation by the customs department.
