Suicide bombing strikes railway station in Quetta, Pakistan

On Sunday, a suicide bomber detonated an explosive-laden vehicle near a railway line in Quetta, the capital of Pakistan's Balochistan province, as a passenger train was passing through the Chaman Phatak area. The powerful explosion caused two train carriages to overturn and catch fire, while also damaging nearby buildings and vehicles. Reports indicate that at least 24 people were killed, with injury estimates varying between 70 and 82. Many victims reportedly included military personnel, women, and children. The Majeed Brigade of the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) claimed responsibility for the attack, stating their objective was to target security personnel. Provincial government spokesperson Shahid Rind condemned the attack, and authorities have declared a medical emergency in local hospitals to treat the wounded, many of whom remain in critical condition. An investigation into the incident is currently underway.
