Archbishop Georgios calls for wisdom during national elections
Archbishop Georgios cast his vote in the legislative elections in Nicosia, describing the act as both a sacred right and a significant responsibility. He emphasized that Cyprus remains under occupation, which makes the national issue the country's primary concern. The Archbishop urged citizens to exercise wisdom when selecting candidates who can collaborate effectively with the executive branch. He explicitly advocated for cooperation between political representatives to resolve the national problem while avoiding populism. Furthermore, he noted that once the national issue is addressed, authorities can shift focus to smaller-scale matters. Regarding internal church affairs, he mentioned that the election for the new Metropolitan of Paphos will likely take place on a Tuesday, adhering to ecclesiastical canons. He clarified that, according to church procedure, the final authority in such matters rests with the Holy Synod, regardless of public opinion.
