Non-venomous snake consumes a venomous viper at Kourion archaeological site

A video recorded at the Kourion archaeological site in Limassol shows a non-venomous whip snake, locally known as therkos, consuming a small Cypriot blunt-nosed viper, known as fina. The footage was filmed by Kostas Michail and published by Kitasweather. The fina is identified as the only snake species in Cyprus dangerous to humans, while the therkos is harmless, possessing only mild venom located in the rear of its mouth. Experts note that snakes in Cyprus become more active in late April for feeding and mating. Authorities advise the public to remain calm if they encounter a snake and to avoid attempting to kill or disturb it. Recommended safety measures during summer outings include wearing high boots, long trousers, and using a stick to clear vegetation, as snakes are sensitive to ground vibrations. These precautions are advised to minimize the risk of snakebites while exploring the countryside.
