Alma movement enters Cypriot parliament with four seats

The Alma movement, led by Odysseas Michaelides, secured four seats in the Cypriot parliamentary elections held on May 24, 2026. Although the party established a parliamentary presence, Michaelides acknowledged that the results were lower than internal and public expectations, which had suggested potential double-digit figures. The leader attributed this performance to the strong mobilization of traditional parties during the final days of the campaign. Michaelides stated that the party will function as an opposition force with the ultimate goal of ending the current governance in the 2028 presidential elections. He emphasized that Alma intends to act as a pillar of stability and transparency in parliament, while pledging to combat large private interests. The party performed best in the Nicosia and Kyrenia districts, with lower support in Larnaca, Paphos, and Famagusta. Despite not reaching the projected 12.5% seen in earlier polls, the movement expressed satisfaction with achieving fifth place nationally. Michaelides confirmed that the party will initiate contacts with other opposition factions while explicitly excluding potential cooperation with Disy, Elam, and Diko.
