Cyprus elects eleven women to the House of Representatives
Following the 2026 parliamentary elections in Cyprus, eleven women were elected to the 56-seat House of Representatives, representing 19.6% of the legislature. Six of the elected women are incumbents, while five are entering parliament for the first time. The representation by party includes four from DISY, three from AKEL, two from Alma, one from DIKO, and one from Direct Democracy, while ELAM recorded no female MPs. Noteworthy developments include Nicoletta Constantinou becoming the first woman elected in the Paphos district. Despite a higher number of female candidates—224 compared to 160 in 2021—female representation remains below the EU average. Sources provide conflicting reports regarding historical trends, with some noting an increase from 2021 while others argue that the percentage represents a setback in gender equality over the last five years.
