Awards at the 79th Cannes Film Festival
At the 79th Cannes Film Festival, Romanian director Cristian Mungiu won his second Palme d'Or for his film 'Fjord'. The movie depicts a Romanian immigrant family in Norway facing a custody battle with social services over allegations of child abuse. Mungiu's film also received the FIPRESCI award and the Ecumenical Jury Prize. Russian director Andrey Zvyagintsev won the Grand Prix for his film 'Minotaur', which follows a businessman dealing with corporate and family conflicts during the Ukraine war. During his acceptance speech, Zvyagintsev, who lives in exile in Paris, urged Russian President Vladimir Putin to stop the war in Ukraine. The jury was chaired by South Korean director Park Chan-wook. The festival also featured the presentation of an honorary Palme d'Or.
