Forest firefighters cancel 48-hour strike after reaching agreement
Forest firefighters and fire wardens employed by the Department of Forests initially announced a 48-hour strike starting Monday to protest the violation of their job service plan. Trade unions OEKDY SEK, PASYEK PEO, and DEE KDOKW DEOK argued that these violations reduced operational readiness and threatened worker safety during firefighting operations. Additionally, the unions claimed that promised compensation for staff responsible for heavy firefighting vehicle maintenance was not being provided. The dispute arose because the Department of Forests allegedly failed to uphold agreements previously settled with the government and the department director. Following the announcement of the strike, the parties engaged in further negotiations. A subsequent agreement was reached to implement the disputed terms of employment and the job service plan. Consequently, the strike was cancelled. The parties have agreed to hold further discussions regarding outstanding issues in October.
