By-election for Aglantzia deputy mayor scheduled following parliamentary results

Andreas Constantinou, the deputy mayor of Aglantzia, was elected to the House of Representatives as a candidate for the DISY party in Nicosia, leaving his local government seat vacant. Following the requirements of the local government legislation, a by-election must be held within 45 days of the vacancy. The Interior Ministry is expected to formally announce the election dates and candidacy submission procedures in the coming days. The new official will serve the remainder of the current municipal council term. Meanwhile, in Limassol, the vacancy left by Michael Fellas in the Municipal Council will be filled by candidate Michalis Vasiliou, as provided by electoral rules regarding substitute candidates. Additionally, it has been confirmed that Fedias Panayiotou will remain in the European Parliament, preventing the need for costly national by-elections for his seat. The state budget has allocated 237,500 euros to cover potential local government by-elections.
