Court orders Giorgos Christodoulou to remain in custody pending retrial

On Monday, the Nicosia Permanent Assize Court unanimously denied a bail request for Giorgos Christodoulou, known as Zavrantonas. The defendant will remain in custody while his case undergoes a retrial. Christodoulou was previously convicted on December 21, 2022, and sentenced to 22 years in prison for possession of over 15 kilograms of cocaine with intent to supply. This conviction was recently overturned by the Court of Appeal, leading to the current legal proceedings. The defense team had requested his release under specific conditions, but the court rejected the plea. All proceedings related to the case are continuing at the Nicosia court. The defendant remains detained at the Central Prisons until the conclusion of the new trial.
