Petros Nacouzi elected as Maronite representative in Cyprus parliament
Petros Nacouzi was elected as the new non-voting Maronite representative in the Cypriot House of Representatives on Sunday. He secured 51 per cent of the vote, receiving 1,606 ballots against his opponent Marios Mavrides, who received 1,519. Nacouzi, a 56-year-old accountant and co-founder of the firm Forvis Mazars, succeeds Yiannakis Moussas, who held the position from 2016 until last month. Moussas recently noted that his tenure saw improvements in infrastructure and increased state incentives for Maronite residents moving to traditional villages in the north. Nacouzi joins existing non-voting representatives Vartkes Mahdessian for the Armenian community and Antonella Mantovani for the Latin community. The representative will serve as an advocate for the Maronite community's interests within the legislature. No major political controversies were reported during the electoral process.
