Tychikos challenges Paphos Metropolis election process
Tychikos has formally petitioned the Holy Synod of the Church of Cyprus to halt the upcoming election for the Paphos Metropolis. He asserts that his previous suspension on January 8, 2026, was procedurally flawed because it was not imposed by a proper ecclesiastical court. Tychikos argues that the decision was made in his absence, which he claims violates both church canons and principles of natural justice. Additionally, he notes that he has filed an appeal with the Supreme Court of Cyprus regarding his case. The Supreme Court issued a decision on April 23, 2026, concerning his civil application, which he claims supports his right to challenge the church's actions. Tychikos is now demanding a retrial and the suspension of the current electoral proceedings until his status is legally clarified. The Church of Cyprus has yet to issue a final response to his formal protest.
