Nicosia police issue warning over impersonation scam

A 52-year-old resident of Nicosia was targeted by a perpetrator who contacted them via a video call on a social media application. The fraudster claimed to be representing the Department of Migration and displayed a fake police identification card to gain the victim's trust. During the interaction, the victim was persuaded to share personal details and bank account information. Consequently, the perpetrator managed to illicitly withdraw a significant sum of money from the victim's account. The police have clarified that they do not conduct official business through such digital methods. Citizens are urged to exercise caution and verify any requests for financial or personal information through official channels.
