Nicosia Vocational Rehabilitation Unit inaugurated
The State Health Services Organization (OKYPY) inaugurated the new facilities of the Nicosia Vocational Rehabilitation Unit (MERA) on May 25. Originally established in 2002, the unit now operates under the Directorate of Mental Health Services in modernized premises. The primary objective of MERA is to assist adults with psychosocial difficulties in entering or re-entering the open labor market. The facility utilizes the Supported Employment Model to provide individualized vocational assessment, career guidance, job placement, and continuous support for both employees and employers. The center is staffed by an interdisciplinary team including occupational therapists, a psychologist, mental health nurses, and job coaches. Beyond vocational training, the unit aims to raise awareness regarding mental health issues to combat social stigma. These services are provided free of charge to eligible individuals and their families.
