Recent fire incidents and criminal investigation in Cyprus
Over the past 24 hours, the Cyprus Fire Service responded to 38 incidents, including 15 fires, 17 special services, and 6 false alarms. On Sunday at 06:56, a fire caused by a chimney damaged a residential roof in Gourri village, Nicosia; no injuries were reported. Earlier, at 00:55, firefighters extinguished a blaze in an abandoned house on Heroes Square in Limassol. Separately, on Saturday May 30, 2026, at 17:45, a fire occurred at Kato Vouno in Pera Orinis, burning four decares of vegetation before being contained by 18:15. Additionally, on Friday May 29, 2026, a fire at Thalassines Spilies in Pegeia, Paphos, destroyed three decares of crops. In a criminal matter, a 17-year-old was arrested in Limassol for a robbery involving the theft of a motorcycle from two 30-year-old men. The suspects, wearing hoods, had intercepted the victims and assaulted them, though the motorcycle was later recovered in a park.
