Third arrest made in Limassol betting shop arson case
The Limassol District Court has ordered a five-day remand for a 44-year-old inmate at the Central Prison in connection with the arson of a betting shop in Germasogeia, which occurred on June 1, 2026. The suspect was identified by one of two 20-year-old suspects already in custody, who confessed that the 44-year-old directed the operation from prison. Police investigations suggest the motive involved financial disputes and demands reaching 300,000 euros, with the suspect allegedly linked to five other criminal incidents in Limassol, including threats, extortion, and attempted arson targeting local businessmen. The 20-year-old suspects claimed they were promised 1,000 euros for the attack and were also ordered to target a luxury car dealership, though they abandoned that plan. Authorities continue to investigate the 44-year-old for additional crimes, and a warrant remains active for at least one other individual connected to the criminal network. The suspects are being investigated for arson and conspiracy to commit a felony.
