Recent criminal court sentencing in Cyprus

The Famagusta Permanent Assize Court sentenced a 37-year-old man to seven years in prison for attempted rape, sexual abuse, and coercion against a 33-year-old female tourist. The incident occurred on April 29, 2024, in Ayia Napa while both were staying in the same hotel. In a separate case, the Paphos Assize Court sentenced a 29-year-old man to four years in prison for three burglaries, thefts, and arson of a vehicle committed in January 2025. Furthermore, a 35-year-old man was sentenced to 15 years in prison by the Paphos Assize Court for the attempted murder of two women, aged 33 and 24, in a pharmacy on April 14, 2025. The 33-year-old victim required hospitalization following the attack. These rulings highlight the judicial response to violent and sexual crimes currently processed in Cypriot courts.
