EU foreign ministers meet in Limassol for informal Gymnich summit
The informal Gymnich meeting of EU foreign ministers is taking place in Limassol, Cyprus, on May 27-28, 2026, under the Cypriot presidency. Co-chaired by Cypriot Foreign Minister Constantinos Kombos and EU High Representative Kaja Kallas, the summit focuses on regional developments, the conflict in Ukraine, and the preparation of a new European Security Strategy. The event includes special guests: Indian External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar and Saudi Arabian Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah Al Saud. Discussions are centered on the crisis in the Middle East and its geopolitical implications, alongside evaluations of the European response to ongoing Russian aggression. A welcome dinner was held on the previous evening, attended by Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha. The summit serves as a platform for open, strategic exchange without formal conclusions, reflecting the informal nature of the Gymnich process. A joint press conference by Kallas and Kombos is scheduled for the afternoon of May 28.
