Police conduct countrywide anti-crime operations
Cypriot police conducted coordinated, countrywide overnight operations aimed at maintaining public order and preventing serious crime. Reports from various sources differ on the scope of the operations, with some citing 19 arrests and others 10. The 19-arrest reports recorded 620 vehicle checks, 252 traffic violations, and 17 impounded vehicles, while the 10-arrest accounts documented 684 vehicle checks, 370 traffic violations, and 18 impounded vehicles. Traffic offenses included speeding, driving under the influence of alcohol, and drug-related incidents. Premises were also inspected for unlawful activity, resulting in between six and nine reports depending on the source. Additionally, a separate case regarding a gang-related fight in Xylofagou led to the arrest of a 31-year-old Syrian national, bringing the total number of detainees in that specific investigation to six. Police stated that these preventive operations will continue regularly to ensure public safety. Investigations into the various traffic and criminal cases remain ongoing.
