Police conduct nationwide operations resulting in multiple arrests and traffic citations
Recent police operations across Cyprus aimed at crime prevention and public order involved two distinct phases reported in various sources. In one instance in the Famagusta district, police checked three nightclubs, leading to three arrests—two for illegal employment and one for drug possession—and issued 12 traffic fines. In a broader, nationwide effort, police forces conducted patrols that resulted in five additional arrests for offenses including illegal stay in the Republic of Cyprus, carrying a knife, and failure to appear in court. Statistics regarding these nationwide checks vary among reports, with some citing 895 vehicle stops and 1,125 individuals checked, while other reports specify 407 vehicles and 518 individuals checked. Collectively, authorities issued hundreds of traffic citations, including scores for speeding, and detected dozens of drivers under the influence of alcohol and narcotics. Additionally, authorities impounded vehicles and investigated dozens of establishments, issuing various administrative complaints. Investigations into these incidents remain ongoing as part of a routine effort to maintain public safety.
