Police conduct targeted warrant collection in Paphos and nationwide security operations
The Paphos Police Department recently executed 213 outstanding arrest warrants, collecting 60,155 euros as part of ongoing efforts to recover long-overdue fines. According to Assistant Police Director Michalis Nikolaou, these campaigns are now routine and aim to improve state revenue collection while discouraging future non-compliance. In a separate, broader operation conducted overnight across Cyprus, police performed organized patrols in key urban areas to prevent crime and ensure public order. Reports regarding these overnight operations vary; some sources state nine people were arrested, while others report six arrests for various offenses including illegal stay and physical assault. Police checked hundreds of drivers and premises, resulting in hundreds of traffic violations, including speeding and drunk driving. Furthermore, 12 vehicles were impounded during these nationwide police actions. Authorities confirmed that intensified, daily policing operations will continue to enhance public safety.
