Police conduct widespread overnight operations in Cyprus resulting in multiple arrests
Overnight police operations across Cyprus, primarily in the Nicosia and Famagusta districts, resulted in 19 total arrests for various offenses. In Nicosia, four individuals were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol, including cases of refusal to provide breath samples and one driver lacking proper vehicle documentation. Separately, Nicosia police arrested an 18-year-old and a 22-year-old for fighting and public disturbance, during which they reportedly assaulted officers. In the Famagusta district, two men aged 22 and 24 were arrested after a nightclub brawl where three police officers were injured; they are scheduled to appear in court for a remand hearing. An additional 19-year-old in Famagusta was arrested for assaulting officers while under the influence of alcohol. Police conducted 606 vehicle checks, 858 person checks, and 46 inspections of premises during the night. Official reports indicate 293 traffic violations, including 112 for speeding and 24 for alcohol-related driving offenses. 17 vehicles were impounded during the operations.
