Larnaca residents to attempt Guinness World Record for longest battery chain

The Federation of Primary School Parents' Associations of Larnaca has announced an initiative to set a new Guinness World Record for the longest continuous line of AA batteries. The event is scheduled to take place on Sunday, June 7, 2026, at Zouchouri Square in Larnaca, starting at 5:00 PM. Participants aim to lay down more than 33,000 batteries to surpass the current record of 31,204 batteries set by the organization Recycle My Battery in the United States in 2023. The project involves primary school students, parents, teachers, local volunteers, and public organizations. Beyond the record attempt, the initiative serves as an environmental awareness campaign regarding waste recycling. Following the event, all collected batteries will be handed over to AFIS Cyprus for professional recycling. The organizers intend to promote ecological responsibility through this community effort.
