Recall of 664 Saab vehicles in Cyprus due to defective Takata airbags
The Cyprus Department of Road Transport has issued an urgent recall for 664 Saab vehicles identified by General Motors as containing defective Takata driver-side airbag inflators. The defect poses a severe safety risk, as the inflator may rupture during deployment and eject metal fragments into the cabin, potentially causing serious injury or death. The department has notified affected owners via registered mail and SMS. Owners are required to have the airbag replaced by a licensed technician within an eight-month period. Following the repair, original confirmation documents must be submitted to the Department of Road Transport to ensure compliance. Failure to replace the faulty component by the deadline will lead to the immediate suspension of the vehicle’s roadworthiness certificate and road tax license. Furthermore, non-compliant vehicles will be barred from undergoing mandatory technical inspections. The department advises owners to avoid using their vehicles until the repair is completed. Affected chassis and registration numbers are available on the government website at https://www.gov.cy/mtcw/saab/. Inquiries can be directed to the department at 22807000 or via email at recalls@rtd.mcw.gov.cy.
