EU foreign ministers convene for informal Gymnich summit in Limassol

EU foreign ministers are gathering in Limassol for the informal two-day Gymnich summit, which concludes on May 28. Co-chaired by Cyprus Foreign Minister Constantinos Kombos and EU High Representative Kaja Kallas, the meeting focuses on strategic discussions without formal decision-making. Key agenda items include the ongoing war in Ukraine, regional instability in the Middle East, and the development of a new European Security Strategy. Cypriot Minister Kombos highlighted the importance of securing supply chains, particularly regarding navigation through the Strait of Hormuz. Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar and Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah Al Saud are attending to discuss maritime security and the IMEC trade corridor. Additionally, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha participated in a welcome dinner to address the bloc's ongoing military support and financial commitments to Ukraine. The summit serves as a consultation platform to foster common strategic views among member states.
