Veterinary services address reports on animal burial sites in Larnaca
Cyprus veterinary services have issued a statement regarding the burial of culled animals in the Larnaca district following public concern caused by circulating videos. The agency confirmed that the burial took place last Saturday in a remote area, separate from villages and livestock units. Authorities stated that the excavation and site selection were coordinated with the Department of Environment, the Water Development Department, and the Geological Survey Department. While officials maintain that all sanitary protocols were initially followed, recent heavy rainfall caused erosion of the clay sealing the burial trenches. In response to the exposure of the site, veterinary services have issued instructions to reinforce the area with additional layers of clay. Inspections are currently ongoing at all burial sites across the Larnaca and Nicosia districts to ensure continued compliance with health standards.
