Police implement heightened security measures for the long weekend

Cypriot police and the British Bases police are implementing increased security measures for the upcoming long weekend from May 30 to June 1, 2026, coinciding with the Kataklysmos and Holy Spirit holidays. Authorities are focusing on road safety, with increased patrols on motorways and major routes to prevent serious accidents caused by speeding, alcohol, or drug use. Motorists are urged to strictly adhere to traffic laws and police instructions due to expected high traffic volumes. Concurrently, the British Bases police, led by Deputy Assistant Police Commissioner of Dhekelia Markos Petrou, have announced extra patrols in both eastern and western base areas. This deployment aims to prevent road accidents and curb opportunistic thefts from vehicles and beaches. The public is advised to avoid leaving valuable items unattended in vehicles or on the shore while swimming.
