Ministry of Justice responds to union complaint regarding prison administration
The Isotita trade union has filed a formal complaint with the Attorney General and the Chief of Police, alleging criminal acts by prison administration officials. Those named in the complaint include Acting Prison Director Maria Siali, Minister of Justice Costas Fytiris, the Ministry's Director General, and officials from the PASYDY trade union. In response, the Ministry of Justice stated that the union's public targeting of institutions and individuals aims to exert pressure on ongoing disciplinary proceedings. The Ministry emphasized that disciplinary processes are being conducted independently, objectively, and without outside influence. Officials maintained that legal and institutional procedures will be followed to ensure the rights of all involved are respected. The Ministry declared that it will not permit pressures for ulterior motives or the creation of a culture of impunity within its jurisdiction. Furthermore, the authorities noted that the existing issues at the prison are known and are currently being addressed through established official channels.
