Construction progress of the new Archaeological Museum of Cyprus

On Thursday, journalists toured the construction site of the new Archaeological Museum of Cyprus in Nicosia, located across from the House of Representatives on the grounds of the former Nicosia General Hospital. Managed by the construction company Cyfield, the project has a budget of 144 million euros and is currently expected to be completed by 2027. The facility covers nearly 40,000 square meters and is designed by architect Theoni Xanthi of XZA Architects. The structure consists of five levels, including two underground floors and three raised exhibition volumes named 'Place', 'Sea', and 'World'. Technical highlights include an anti-seismic system featuring 77 custom-designed isolators capable of a 15-centimeter shift in any direction. The facility will house archaeological storage, laboratories, exhibition spaces, and public amenities, while the site design includes a large public plaza. Project Manager Andreas Konstantinidis noted the complexity of the build, mentioning that one million unique wooden pieces were used for construction molds alone.
