Cyprus beach chair and umbrella price caps increased

The Central Beaches Committee in Cyprus has raised the maximum allowable rate for sunbeds to 3.50 euros and umbrellas to 3.00 euros, marking the first increase since 2008 when the limit was set at 2.50 euros each. Municipalities are now deciding whether to adopt these new rates, with implementation varying by region. Ayia Napa and Paphos have confirmed the adoption of these higher prices, with Paphos applying them as of May 1st. Conversely, Larnaca has opted to keep prices at the previous level of 2.50 euros per item. While initial reports indicated Limassol would increase prices to the new limit, local management practices remain subject to the specific offers of individual contractors. These revenues are mandated to fund beach cleaning, maintenance, and equipment repair. The fee adjustments reflect the broader impact of rising VAT costs on local authorities. Private beach operators and hotels retain the legal authority to set their own pricing independently of municipal limits.
