Larnaca authorities address dangerous buildings after structure collapses

The Larnaca District Local Government Organisation (DLGO) has completed the demolition of a dilapidated house following a partial collapse of its wall and roof last Monday. Angelos Hadjicharalambous, the DLGO President, confirmed the three female residents evacuated safely before work began on Thursday. Authorities plan to demolish another house in the Sotiros area next week, along with an adjacent structure that was not previously recorded in municipal archives. This incident is part of a broader safety drive that has identified 25 potentially dangerous buildings across the district. In the Faneromeni area, 40 residents were forced to evacuate an apartment block on May 20, though owners have yet to secure the property. Officials are now preparing legal measures to intervene if owners fail to comply. Furthermore, authorities noted that a separate, problematic apartment building, where a fatal fall recently occurred, is owned by over 90 individuals, complicating maintenance and safety enforcement.
