The 27th Cyprus contemporary dance festival opens in Limassol
The 27th Cyprus Contemporary Dance Festival is set to open on May 30 at the Rialto Theatre in Limassol. Organized by the Department of Contemporary Culture and the Rialto Theatre, the festival will run until June 21. The opening production is the award-winning work BLKDOG by British choreographer Botis Seva and his company, Far From The Norm. The performance, which starts at 20:30, will be followed by an opening party at the theatre's outdoor bar featuring DJ Christina Papakyriakou. The festival program includes six international productions and seven performances featuring artists from the UK, France, Greece, Cyprus, Belgium, and Finland. BLKDOG explores themes of youth, identity, trauma, and memory through a blend of hip-hop and physical theatre. The choreography is rooted in the social realities of the London grime and rap scene. The production serves as a commentary on the experiences of young people attempting to navigate a world they find exclusionary.
