Cyprus hosts 2025 theatre awards ceremony
President Nikos Christodoulides attended the 2025 Theatre Organization of Cyprus (THOC) awards ceremony held in Nicosia. During his address, he emphasized the state's role in supporting the arts, noting annual funding of €5.3 million for the state theatre and €1.4 million for independent theatre groups. The President discussed the importance of theatre for cultural self-awareness and as a source of support during times of geopolitical tension. He highlighted that under the Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the European Union, all 27 member states reached an agreement on a strategic roadmap for culture. This roadmap aims to integrate culture into the identity, society, and economy of the EU. Additionally, the President noted that a cultural programme developed by the deputy ministry of culture serves to promote the nation's heritage and contemporary creativity as a unified narrative. The event served both to honor individual artists and to reinforce the collective cultural strategy of the current administration.
