By-election for deputy mayor of Aglantzia scheduled for June 28

A by-election for the position of deputy mayor of Aglantzia will be held on June 28 following the election of Andreas Konstantinou to the House of Representatives. Municipal councilor Christos Liverdos has assumed the duties of deputy mayor on an interim basis until the election takes place. Liverdos has formally submitted his candidacy to his party, the Democratic Rally (DISY), to run for the permanent position. Reports indicate that municipal councilor Prokopis Prokopiou is also expressing interest in the DISY nomination, though the party has not yet made a final decision. Other political parties are also in the process of evaluating candidates. AKEL is reportedly considering Eugenia Aletra and Mikaela Kythreoti Mchlapa for the candidacy. DIKO has been linked to potential candidate Myroula Lambrou. Party leaderships are currently reviewing potential nominees through their respective internal democratic processes. No official candidates have been finalized by any of the major parties as of now.
