Nicosia Criminal Court acquits six defendants of theft and forgery charges

On May 28, the Nicosia Criminal Court issued a 205-page ruling acquitting six defendants—four individuals and two Cyprus-registered companies—of 34 criminal charges. The legal proceedings lasted six years and involved accusations of conspiracy, theft of $3.25 million, forgery, circulation of forged documents, and falsification of accounts. The prosecution presented 26 witnesses during the trial. However, the court found the testimony provided by the prosecution to be insufficient to substantiate the charges. Furthermore, the court rejected the prosecution's explanation for failing to call certain key witnesses, siding with the defense's legal arguments on this matter. Legal representation for the accused included the law firms of Christos M. Triantafyllides, Stylianos N. Christoforou, Stelios Augustis, and Elias Stefanou. All defendants are Greek Cypriots. The ruling brings a conclusion to the long-standing legal battle.
