Labor unions in Cyprus seek intervention from health minister over stalled OKYPY negotiations

Six labor unions, including PASYDY, SEK, PEO, DEOK, PASYKI, and PASYNO, have officially requested the intervention of the Cypriot Minister of Health regarding the renewal of their collective bargaining agreement with the State Health Services Organization (OKYPY). The unions report a stalemate in negotiations, citing the employer's refusal to implement agreed-upon wage scales and failure to honor previously signed provisions. They claim these issues are negatively impacting the quality of public healthcare services and the job security of staff. Key points of contention include annual wage increases instead of the current triennial system and professional advancement policies. In contrast, OKYPY maintains that dialogue is ongoing and characterizes the different approaches as a normal part of extensive negotiations. The organization stated that it remains committed to providing quality public healthcare and that all prior obligations and incentives for doctors continue to be in effect.
