Cyprus to launch CY-Alert emergency warning system on June 2, 2026

The Cyprus Civil Defence Force will launch the CY-Alert system on June 2, 2026, to provide real-time mobile notifications during emergencies and natural disasters. The system uses geolocation to target users in specific areas, requiring citizens to manually activate relevant settings on their mobile devices for compatibility. Between June 2 and June 15, authorities will conduct trial alerts featuring a loud sound and vibration, clearly labeled as 'TEST' or 'EXERCISE' to indicate that no action is required. Localized tests are scheduled for Pissouri and Moniatis (June 2, 11:00-12:00), Psevdas (June 2, 16:00-17:00), Argaka, Avgorou, and Ora (June 7, 10:00-11:00), and Fini and Kalopanayiotis (June 10, 16:00-17:00). A nationwide simulation regarding a missing person alert will conclude the testing phase on June 15 from 15:00 to 16:00. Residents in communities neighboring the test sites may also receive notifications during these exercises.
