Limassol communities prepare for wildfire season

Lefteris Perikli, President of the Limassol Community Union, announced that 88 communities in the Limassol district are taking measures to minimize wildfire risks ahead of the summer season. Following the major fire on July 23, 2025, the communities have begun clearing vegetation on their land through contracted cleaning crews. Despite initial challenges in securing contractors for roadside maintenance, all areas under community jurisdiction are being managed. Perikli noted that recent rains have caused regrowth in areas outside community control and called for state authorities to clear these sections as well. All local fire response vehicles are on standby, and volunteers are being trained to assist under the guidance of the Fire Service. Additionally, the Union has advocated for increased state patrols and the use of drone technology for early fire detection. Perikli emphasized the need for coordinated readiness between local communities and central state services.
