Russian drone strikes residential building in Romania

On Friday, a Russian drone crashed into the roof of a 10-storey apartment block in the Romanian city of Galati during an overnight attack on neighboring Ukraine. The explosion caused a fire, injuring a woman and a child who were hospitalized, while two others were treated for panic attacks. Romanian authorities confirmed the drone breached their airspace, noting that this is the 28th such incident since the war began. NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte condemned the incident as reckless, pledging to defend every inch of allied territory. EU leadership, including Ursula von der Leyen and António Costa, also criticized the strike and signaled potential further sanctions against Moscow. While Romania and NATO officials identified the device as Russian, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova labeled these accusations unsubstantiated. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed that President Vladimir Putin was informed of the situation. Emergency responders evacuated 70 residents, as the impact damaged two stairwells and five vehicles.
