Man sentenced to life imprisonment for wife's murder in Ampelokipoi

A 42-year-old builder has been sentenced to life imprisonment by the Mixed Jury Court for the premeditated murder of his wife, which occurred in November 2024 at their apartment in Ampelokipoi. The court found him guilty by a 6-1 vote, rejecting his defense claim that the act was committed in the heat of passion. A single juror dissented, arguing for a conviction of homicide in a state of sudden intense mental agitation. In addition to the life sentence, the defendant received two years and six months for illegal possession and use of a weapon. The court heard that the defendant concealed the victim's body in an attic, wrapped in eight layers of plastic, alongside the murder weapon. The prosecutor argued that the defendant acted with calculated calm, even attempting to make it appear as though the victim was still alive. The defendant confessed to notifying the police five days after the incident. No mitigating circumstances were granted by the court.
