Court increases compensation for 2003 Paphos land expropriation

In 2003, the Republic of Cyprus expropriated 800 square meters of land in the Paphos district, offering the owners 170 euros as compensation. The owners did not initially contest this amount. In 2018, a new expropriation involving an additional 3,500 square meters of the same property prompted the owners to seek legal counsel from Deilinos & Associates LLC. While investigating the 2018 case, the legal team reviewed the 2003 proceedings and filed a petition with the Paphos District Court in 2021 regarding the original expropriation. Following a legal process that spanned several years, the Paphos District Court recently ruled in favor of the owners. The court increased the original compensation of 170 euros to 165,000 euros for the 800-square-meter plot. The final decision concludes a 23-year period since the initial acquisition of the property by the state.
